Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Ad Blocker Premium (the “Extension”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you install and use the Extension. By installing and using the Extension you accept the practices described below. If you do not agree with them, please do not install or use the Extension.

What the Extension does

Ad Blocker Premium is a browser extension that blocks advertisements on the pages you visit and stops pop-ups, pop-unders and unwanted redirects before they open. Filtering runs in your browser: rules are matched locally against the pages you load, using filter lists shipped with the Extension and the browser’s own request-blocking engine. The Extension needs no account, does not ask you to sign in, and does not ask you for your name, postal address or payment details. The data the Extension sends to us is described in full below.

Information the Extension handles

Pages you visit. To hide ads and to catch windows that try to open themselves, the Extension’s scripts read the address and the contents of the pages you load and apply filter rules to them. That matching happens on your device. What leaves your device is described in the paragraphs that follow, and may include the domain names of websites you visit and information about your use of search engines.

Installation identifier. The first time the Extension runs, it asks our server for a random installation identifier and stores that value locally on your device. The identifier is not derived from your identity, your device or your browsing history — it is a random value used to count active installations and to group the statistics described below under one installation. The Extension sends it back as inst_id on its later requests to us.

Install, update and uninstall pings. When the Extension is installed, updated or removed, it contacts our server at adblockerpremium.info so that we can count installations and removals and deliver updated filter lists. These requests include the installation identifier, the Extension’s store ID and version number, and aggregate counters such as the total number of items blocked and the number of searches made while the Extension was active. Like any web request, they also expose standard technical information: your IP address, your browser type and version, and your operating system.

Usage statistics. Periodically the Extension posts usage statistics to adblockerpremium.info/stats/, together with the installation identifier. These statistics may include: (i) the number of items blocked per website, recorded against that website’s domain name; and (ii) information about your visits to search engine results pages. We use this to measure how well our filter lists perform across websites and to improve blocking quality.

Preferences and allow-list. The Extension uses your browser’s extension storage to remember your settings — whether blocking is on, the sites you have allowed, the pop-up windows you have chosen to trust, and its blocked-item counters. Your preferences and your per-site allow-list are held on your device; the counters are also reported to us as described above.

Support correspondence. If you write to us at the address below, we receive whatever you send us, such as your email address, the message itself and any website addresses you include. We use that only to answer you and to improve the Extension, not for marketing.

How we use the data

We use the data described above to: (i) count installations, updates and removals of the Extension; (ii) deliver updated filter lists and configuration to your installation; (iii) measure in aggregate how effectively ads and pop-ups are blocked across websites, so that we can maintain and improve the filter lists; and (iv) answer support requests. We do not use it to serve advertising to you, and we do not attempt to work out who you are.

How the data is stored

Your settings, allow-list, filter lists, counters and the installation identifier are stored locally on your device by the browser’s extension storage, and stay there until you change them, clear your browser data, or remove the Extension. The pings and usage statistics described above are stored on servers operated for us by standard hosting providers, protected by access controls and industry-standard security measures.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent or trade the data collected by the Extension, and we do not hand it to third parties for their own purposes. The only recipients are the hosting and infrastructure providers that run our servers; they act on our behalf, under contract, and process the data only as needed to operate the service. We may also disclose data where the law requires it or where it is necessary to protect our legal rights.

Permissions and why they are needed

The Extension requests the following browser permissions, strictly to do its job:

host_permissions / <all_urls>, activeTab: to apply filter rules and hide ad elements on the pages you load, and to catch windows opened from them.
declarativeNetRequest, webRequest: so the browser can block requests to known ad and pop-up servers, and hold back unwanted redirects.
scripting: to inject the scripts that hide ad elements and intercept pop-up and pop-under attempts.
storage, unlimitedStorage: to keep your settings, your allow-list and the filter lists on your device.
alarms: to schedule periodic maintenance such as filter list refreshes and the statistics upload.
tabs: to show per-tab blocking counts, to apply per-site settings to the right tab, and to open an allowed window in a background tab when you ask for that.

Cookies

The Extension itself does not set cookies in your browser. Our website may set cookies needed to operate the install and uninstall flows. Websites you visit continue to set their own cookies under their own policies.

Legal bases for processing (GDPR)

Where the GDPR applies we rely on: (i) performance of the agreement between you and us, in order to provide the Extension you chose to install; (ii) our legitimate interest in operating, securing and improving the Extension and in counting installations and removals in aggregate; and (iii) compliance with legal obligations where these apply.

International transfers

The data described above may be processed in countries other than the one where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers outside the EEA.

Data retention

Local settings and the installation identifier stay on your device until you change them, clear your browser data, or remove the Extension. Server-side data (install, update and uninstall pings and the usage statistics linked to an installation identifier) is retained for no longer than 12 months, after which it is deleted or aggregated so that it can no longer be associated with a single installation. Support correspondence is kept for as long as needed to deal with your request and any follow-up.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. The Extension keeps no user accounts and does not link what it sends to your name; the data is keyed only to the random installation identifier described above. Removing the Extension and clearing its local storage deletes the locally stored data and stops further collection. To ask us to delete the server-side data held against your installation identifier, or for any other request, contact us at the address below and we will respond in line with applicable law.

Children’s privacy

The Extension is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

Security

We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to the data the Extension transmits. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date shown above is the most recent revision. Continued use of the Extension after a revision takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
